Hi! I’m Dr. Baker (she/her).
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a lifeguard-cowgirl. While I couldn’t have articulated it at the time, that dream reflected a desire to spend my time engaged in equal parts exploration and service. And although ‘therapist’ doesn’t sound as cool as lifeguard-cowgirl, it turns out it’s pretty close to what I imagined for myself as a four-year-old.
That said, a lot happened between my childhood imaginings and my adult reality. In addition to many years of education and training, I’ve traveled a winding path of surprises, challenges, and switchbacks in arriving at this work. I can hardly believe how lucky I am to be here. It is an immense pleasure and privilege to walk alongside my clients in their journeys.
education & training
Alongside formal education and training, I have over a decade of experience providing mental health services. After undergrad, I worked in wilderness therapy serving teens with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral issues. I’ve worked in academic settings with college students who have intellectual disabilities, and in acute inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. I also served as the lead therapist for multiple NIH, DOD, and PCORI-funded clinical trials of various therapies for chronic pain and opioid addiction. My training in neuroscience complements these clinical experiences; neuroscience allows me to ask “how does this work?” in a different way, and in my work with clients I aim to balance the unique perspectives afforded by my joint training as a psychotherapist and neuroscientist.
